Stay Covered

Stay covered

The government has changed its regulations regarding standard overdraft practices for the payment of ATM withdrawals and one-time debit card transactions.

After August 15, we will no longer authorize the payment of overdrafts for ATM withdrawals and one-time debit card transactions unless you tell us you want to STAY COVERED.

Currently, your PlainsCapital checking account has a convenient feature that may allow debit card purchases and ATM withdrawals to be approved – even if you don’t have enough money in your account to cover the transaction. This feature provides you with:

      • Convenience: May allow you to make a purchase when you have insufficient funds or if you can’t make a deposit or transfer money until later that day.
      • Emergency support: May allow you to use your debit card in case of an emergency even if you don’t have enough money in your account.
      • Peace of mind: Whether you need it or not, it’s nice to know you’re covered.

If you want to stay covered and have us authorize and pay overdrafts on ATM withdrawals and one-time debit card transactions, visit any PlainsCapital Bank location or call us at (866) 762-8392 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

What you need to know about our overdraft services

An overdraft occurs when a customer does not have enough money in his/her account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway. We can cover overdrafts in two different ways:

  • We have standard overdraft practices that come with most accounts
  • We also offer other option, such as a link to a PlainsCapital savings account

Standard overdraft practices

We authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

  • Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number
  • Automatic bill payments

Beginning Aug. 15, we will no longer authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions unless you tell us you want to stay covered:

  • ATM withdrawals
  • One-time debit card transactions

We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction. If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.

Fees charged if PlainsCapital pays an overdraft

Under our standard overdraft practices:

  • We will charge a $30 fee each time we pay an overdraft
  • There’s no limit on the total fees we can charge for overdrawing an account

Stay covered and have PlainsCapital authorize and pay overdrafts on ATM withdrawals and one-time debit card transactions.
